Everything you want to know
Answers to the most common questions before your first mentoring session.
How long does a mentoring session last?
The initial mentoring session lasts about 60 minutes and takes place online via Zoom or Google Meet. That is enough time for your Upgrade mentor to analyze your profile, discuss the university options that fit you, and build an initial admission plan.
How much does the initial session cost?
The initial strategy session with an Upgrade Education mentor is 100% free, with no obligation to continue with a paid program afterwards. We offer it because we want to help you make an informed decision about your university admission.
Who will I talk to in the session?
You will talk to an Upgrade educational counselor, someone who has been through the international admissions process at one of the best universities in the world (Harvard, Stanford, Oxford, Cambridge, MIT, Sciences Po, Bocconi, ETH Zürich and similar).
Your mentor will be someone who knows in detail the admissions system for the destination you are interested in: the USA, UK, Continental Europe or Canada.
What will I find out in the mentoring session?
In the strategy session with an Upgrade mentor you will find out:
• An analysis of your profile: grades, extracurriculars, strengths and weaknesses
• The universities that fit you, based on your profile and aspirations
• Your application strategy: what to prioritize, what timeline to follow
• The concrete steps for the next 6-12 months
Should I bring my parents to the session?
We recommend that at least one session include a parent. International admissions involve important family decisions (budget, long-term strategy, academic options) and it helps for everyone involved to be on the same page.
If you prefer the first session to be 1-on-1, that is perfectly fine: you can have a follow-up session together with your parents.
What should I prepare before the session?
Nothing is required, the session is structured to gather the necessary information from the conversation. But it helps to think about:
• The universities you are interested in (even if you are not sure yet)
• The majors you have considered
• Your main extracurriculars (olympiads, volunteering, personal projects)
• Your recent grades and overall average
How soon will you contact me after I fill in the form?
We will contact you within a maximum of 48 working hours to schedule the session time together. The reply comes by email and phone, check both, including your spam folder.
What happens after the initial session?
After the session, you receive a personalized booklet with concrete information about admissions in the USA, UK and Europe, plus the steps recommended for your profile.
If it turns out you need ongoing mentoring throughout your applications, we will present the Upgrade program options, but with no pressure. The decision remains entirely yours and your family's.
