About Upgrade services
What exactly does Upgrade Education do?
Upgrade Education is an educational counseling agency that helps Romanian high school and university students apply to universities abroad. We offer complete support: from choosing the right universities and programs, to writing essays, preparing for tests and obtaining the visa.
How much do your services cost?
Prices vary depending on the chosen package. We offer a free initial consultation in which we discuss your goals and present your options. Contact us for a personalized offer.
Do you work with students from all over the country?
Yes, we work online with high school and university students from all over Romania and from the diaspora. Consultations take place via video conference, so location is not a barrier.
What ages/levels do you focus on?
We work with high school students who want to apply for a bachelor's degree, but also with graduates who want to apply to master's programs. Whatever the level, we help you find the best option for you.
The application process
When should I start the application process?
Ideally you should start 12-18 months before the deadline. That way you have enough time for tests, essays and preparing your documents. But we can also help you if you have less time available.
What documents do I need for the application?
In general you need: your academic transcript, your diploma (or graduation certificate), letters of recommendation, essays/motivation letter, a language certificate (IELTS/TOEFL) and, in some cases, standardized test results (SAT/ACT/GRE/GMAT).
How long does the whole process take?
Usually the complete process takes between 6 and 12 months, depending on the country, the number of universities and the time needed for tests. We help you set a realistic timeline.
How many universities should I apply to?
We recommend between 6 and 10 universities, divided into categories: reach, realistic and safety. This way you maximize your chances of admission and have options to choose from.
Standardized tests
Which tests do I have to take?
It depends on the country and program. For English: IELTS or TOEFL. For a bachelor's degree in the USA: SAT or ACT. For a master's: GRE or GMAT. We help you identify exactly what you need.
What score do I need on IELTS/TOEFL?
Most universities require IELTS 6.5-7.0 or TOEFL 90-100. More competitive universities may require higher scores. Together we check the exact requirements for each program.
Do you help with test preparation?
Yes, we offer resources and guidance for preparation. We recommend materials, strategies and study plans. For intensive preparation, we can put you in touch with specialized teachers.
Scholarships and funding
Are there scholarships for Romanian students?
Yes, there are numerous scholarships: from governments, universities and private organizations. Many universities offer merit-based scholarships or need-based financial aid. We help you identify and apply for the right scholarships.
Can I study for free abroad?
In some countries such as Germany, Norway or Austria, studies at public universities are free or have very low fees, even for international students. We help you explore these options.
How do merit-based scholarships work?
Merit-based scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic, extracurricular or leadership achievements. Some cover the fees partially, others in full. We help you build a competitive profile.
Visas and paperwork
Do you help with the student visa?
Yes, we guide you through the entire visa application process: required documents, scheduling the interview, interview preparation and reviewing your file. The process differs from country to country.
How long does it take to get the visa?
It varies depending on the country: from a few weeks to a few months. That is why we recommend starting the visa process as soon as you receive your acceptance letter.
Countries and destinations
Which countries can you help me apply to?
We help you apply to numerous countries: USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Italy and many others. Explore all the options on the Study abroad page. Each destination has its own particularities, which we know in detail.
Which is the best country for studies?
There is no universal answer. The best country depends on your goals, budget, field of study and personal preferences. We help you make the right decision for you.
What are the admission rates?
Admission rates vary a lot depending on the university. Here are a few illustrative examples:
| University | Admission rate |
|---|---|
| Harvard University | ~3-4% |
| Stanford University | ~4% |
| University of Oxford | ~17% |
| University of Toronto | ~43% |
| TU Delft (Netherlands) | ~65% |
Essays and motivation letters
Do you help me write the essays?
Yes, we guide you in writing your essays and motivation letters. We do not write them for you, instead we help you discover your authentic voice and build a convincing story. See how we work in the Upgrade Method.
How important is the essay?
The essay is often decisive, especially at competitive universities. Grades and tests matter, but the essay is your chance to stand out and show who you really are.
