About ESADE
ESADE is a private business school founded in 1958 in Barcelona, part of Ramon Llull University (URL), a private Catalan university. ESADE is one of the few institutions in the world with triple accreditation (AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA), the most recognised quality label in business education worldwide. It has campuses in Barcelona and Madrid and a network of more than 185 partner universities and business schools for international exchanges.
ESADE's reputation comes from consistent results in the Financial Times rankings: the Full-Time MBA ranks 8th worldwide and 5th in Europe, the MSc in International Management is in the global top 10, and the MSc in Finance is number 1 in Spain and in the European top 10. For students aiming for an international career in business, consulting, finance or entrepreneurship, ESADE opens doors to recruiters such as McKinsey, BCG, Google, Amazon and the major investment banks.
At undergraduate level, the flagship programme is the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), taught entirely in English, lasting 4 years and with a strong focus on international experience: mandatory exchanges, study tours and internships. ESADE also offers dual degrees (for example BBA plus Bachelor in Law, or BBA plus Global Governance, Economics and Law). Other strong undergraduate tracks: Global Governance, Economics and Law (ESADE Law School is one of the most respected private law faculties in Spain).
For Romanian students it is important to understand ESADE's status: as a private school, it does NOT operate like a Spanish public university. The application is made directly to ESADE, not through UNEDasiss or Accesnet. There is no statutory EU fee advantage: Romanians pay the same tuition as any student, similar to a non-European. In return, ESADE has a solid system of merit-based scholarships, which can cover between 30 and 100 percent of tuition. Barcelona offers a reasonable cost of living for a major European city (approximately EUR 900-EUR 1,300 per month), and as an EU citizen you automatically have the right to live, work and stay in Spain after graduation, without a visa.
How to apply to ESADE
Direct online application (ESADE account)
As a private school, ESADE does NOT use UNEDasiss or Accesnet. You apply directly on the ESADE portal, create an account and complete the form with personal details, your high school transcript and current grades. The process uses rolling admissions, so the earlier you apply, the better. Recommendation: start the process around 6 months before September.
Motivational essays
ESADE requires a few short essays through which you show your motivation, your interest in business and your fit with the school's values (social impact, leadership, international perspective). Here your personal story, extracurricular activities and career goals matter, not just grades.
Proof of English: IELTS or TOEFL
ESADE's bachelor programmes are in English, so you need an official certificate: as a guideline IELTS 6.5-7.0 or TOEFL iBT 90-100, or an equivalent (Cambridge C1 Advanced). For Romanians, this is usually the easiest step to prepare in advance.
ESADE's own test plus interview
Candidates take the ESADE admissions test (logical, numerical and verbal reasoning, similar to an aptitude test) and are invited to a personal interview, online or on campus. The interview assesses maturity, communication skills and motivation. For Romanians outside Barcelona, the interview can be held online.
Admission decision and scholarship offer
After the full evaluation (grades, essays, test, interview), you receive the decision. If you are admitted and also applied for a merit-based scholarship, the scholarship offer (30-100 percent of tuition) usually comes together with the admission or shortly after. Based on it, you can calculate the real cost of your studies.
Enrolment and moving to Barcelona
To reserve your place you pay a deposit of approximately 25 percent of the first year's tuition. As an EU citizen you do NOT need a student visa; after arrival you obtain your NIE and the EU citizen registration certificate. Arrange accommodation at least 2 months in advance, Barcelona has a competitive rental market.
Costs and scholarships for Romanians
BBA tuition 2026-27 (private school)
Cost of living Barcelona (year)
50-100% tuition
ESADE's highest-merit scholarships reward candidates with exceptional academic results (high BAC averages, olympiads, a strong extracurricular profile) and can cover up to 100 percent of tuition. They are the most competitive and are awarded to a limited number of candidates per year. You apply for them together with your admission file.
30-50% tuition
For very strong candidates who do not reach the top tier, ESADE offers partial scholarships that significantly reduce the annual cost. Combined with Barcelona's reasonable cost of living, they make the BBA accessible to more families. The scholarships can be renewed annually if you maintain the required academic performance.
Complementary sources
Besides ESADE scholarships, you can access external scholarships (foundations, programmes for Romanian students abroad) and study loans with preferential terms, offered by ESADE partner banks for international students. Our mentors help you combine the sources and maximise the total coverage of your costs.

How much does ESADE cost per year for a Romanian student?
ESADE is a private business school, so tuition is similar to what any candidate pays, including non-Europeans. For the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), the tuition fee is approximately EUR 20,500 per year (2026-27), that is roughly EUR 82,000 over the 4 years, excluding accommodation and expenses. There is no reduced statutory EU fee as at Spanish public universities. In return, the real cost drops considerably if you obtain a merit-based scholarship, which can cover between 30 and 100 percent of tuition. To this is added the cost of living in Barcelona, approximately EUR 11,000-EUR 16,000 per year.
Is ESADE a public or private university?
ESADE is a private business school, part of Ramon Llull University, a private university in Catalonia. This means two important things for Romanians. First, the application is made directly to ESADE, not through the public UNEDasiss or Accesnet systems. Second, you do not benefit from reduced statutory EU fees; you pay the same tuition as any student. The compensation comes from the merit-based scholarships (30-100 percent) and from the school's global reputation, which gives you access to recruiters and very good salaries after graduation.
What scholarships can I receive at ESADE as a Romanian?
ESADE has a solid system of merit-based scholarships, which can cover between 30 and 100 percent of tuition and can be renewed throughout the bachelor if you maintain the academic performance. The academic excellence scholarships (up to 100 percent) are the most competitive and are awarded to candidates with exceptional results. The partial scholarships (30-50 percent) are more accessible. You apply for a scholarship together with your admission file. In addition, you can combine them with external scholarships for Romanian students abroad and with study loans on preferential terms.
How do I apply to ESADE and what does the process involve?
The application is direct, on the ESADE portal (NOT through UNEDasiss or Accesnet). The process has several steps: 1) online form with personal details and transcript; 2) motivational essays; 3) proof of English (IELTS 6.5-7.0 or TOEFL iBT 90-100); 4) the ESADE admissions test (logical, numerical, verbal reasoning) plus a personal interview online or on campus; 5) the admission decision and scholarship offer. Admission is rolling, so we recommend starting around 6 months before September.
Are ESADE's programmes in English?
Yes. The flagship bachelor programme, the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), is taught entirely in English, as are the Global Governance, Economics tracks and the international business components. To apply you need an official English certificate (as a guideline IELTS 6.5-7.0 or TOEFL iBT 90-100). You do not need Spanish or Catalan to follow the programme, although learning Spanish helps a lot for everyday life in Barcelona and for local internships.
How well ranked is ESADE?
ESADE is one of the strongest private business schools in Europe. In the Financial Times rankings, the Full-Time MBA ranks 8th worldwide and 5th in Europe, the MSc in International Management is in the global top 10, and the MSc in Finance is number 1 in Spain and in the European top 10. ESADE holds triple accreditation (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA), which fewer than 1 percent of business schools in the world have. As a general university, Ramon Llull appears around position 436 in the QS World ranking, but for business specifically ESADE is among the European elite.
Which specialisations are strong at ESADE for the bachelor?
At undergraduate level, ESADE is recognised for: the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), the flagship programme with a focus on international management, entrepreneurship and global experience; Global Governance, Economics; and Law (ESADE Law School is one of the most respected private law faculties in Spain). There are also popular dual degrees, such as BBA plus Bachelor in Law or BBA plus Global Governance, Economics and Law, which give you two degrees in approximately 5 years. They all include international exchanges and internships.
Can I stay in Spain after graduation as a Romanian?
Yes. As an EU citizen, you automatically have the right to live and work in Spain after graduation, without a work visa, unlike the United Kingdom or the USA. The ESADE degree is highly sought after by international recruiters: consulting (McKinsey, BCG, Bain), investment banks, big tech (Google, Amazon, Microsoft) and multinational companies based in Barcelona or Madrid. With an EU degree you can also work anywhere in the European Union without a visa. The ESADE Alumni network, with more than 60,000 members in over 100 countries, is a real advantage for your first job.
